Tell me where I am wrong on this – I was doing back and forth with Pogie, and decided to analyze his thought processes, which happen to be the thought processes of most Big D Democrats (he has since taken the comments down and closed the thread):
- The main driving force in Democrats is fear of Republicans. I have mentioned on occasion that the Tea Party operates more as political cover for Obama, scaring his base. No matter what he does, and he’s proven to be quite the Neocon, D’s will support him because they are so damned scared. Their focus on the Tea Party is obsessive.
- Winning elections is critical. Anyone with a D by the name must be supported, and when that person takes office, there is much rejoicing.
- While Democrats are in office, they get a pass. Occasionally they do so something outrageous that actually catches the attention of the base, and then we see things like “Well, I don’t support him on that matter, but I’d much rather have him in office than xxxx.
That’s pretty much the entire bandwidth. The Big D bloggers will write on policy matters, but it’s ethereal – they love calling themselves progressives and supporting progressive issues, but they never connect policy and politics.
The Democratic Party is quite the spectacle, a mindless beehive.
